Introduction
Cold Drawn S2205 Duplex Stainless Tube serves the small-bore end of the duplex range, where hot-finished tube cannot achieve the required tolerances. Cold drawing pulls the tube through a die over a mandrel, giving outer diameters from 6 mm and wall thickness down to 0.8 mm with diameter tolerance around +/-0.1 mm, plus a smooth bore that suits instrument fittings and compression joints. Because duplex work hardens quickly, the process is done in several passes with intermediate annealing between them.
The finished tube is solution annealed at 1020-1100°C and quenched so the cold-worked structure recrystallizes into the balanced ferrite-austenite mix. Bright annealing in hydrogen or vacuum is available for a scale-free surface that needs no pickling, which is valuable for instrument tubing where residual acid or scale particles could damage valves. The result keeps the 2205 property set, 450 MPa yield and PREN near 35, in a dimension where the strength allows very thin walls and high working pressures.
Typical applications include hydraulic and chemical injection control lines on offshore platforms, instrument impulse lines in chloride-bearing plants, small heat exchanger and condenser tube for brackish or seawater cooling, and downhole or subsea umbilical tube. Because the tube is drawn rather than welded, there is no seam to concentrate corrosion or fatigue, and coiled lengths can be supplied for continuous line installation. Buyers should specify whether the surface is to be bright annealed or pickled, since this changes cleaning and fitting practice.
